Neptune Beach FL Waterfront Home Real Estate
The City of Neptune Beach is a community of 7,500 residents located in Duval County on a barrier island between the Atlantic Ocean on the east and the Intracoastal Waterway on the west. It encompasses approximately 2.5 square miles and is bounded by the City of Atlantic Beach to the north and the City of Jacksonville Beach to the south.
The name Neptune Beach has origins dating back to the year 1922 when Dan Wheeler built his own train station next to his home and named it Neptune. Mr. Wheeler had been informed that if he were to build a station, the train would be required to stop. The area remained a part of Jacksonville Beach until the tax revolt of 1931, when residents of Neptune voted to secede from Jacksonville Beach and incorporate the City of Neptune Beach.
Today, Neptune Beach has a forward thinking City Government which is committed to keeping Neptune Beach a great place to live by reducing traffic, making the city more pedestrian and bicycle friendly, adding parks and green spaces, and keeping the town center the focal point of community life. Neptune Beach has beautiful beaches, plenty of shopping, dining, entertainment, and nightlife. It is a friendly, active, neighborhood based community focused on managing development to maintain and accentuate their great quality of life!
